Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Expectations and Achievements

Recently the scientists have successfully reached the first step in human cloning. Mapping the total human genome has been completed. This genetic map is said to be the second most important scientific achievement all over the world during the last century. The first one was the landing of men on the moon. Now a days barely week passes without news of new genetic discovery or a new way of applying biotechnology in the news media. Such news is enough to make on interested to take up higher studies in this subject.

Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology is a very new subject in our University. As the students of new batch of a new department, we knew that we might have to face lots of problems like shortage of books and laboratory instruments and so on. But the fact was quite different. The facilities that we have found in this department are beyond our expectations. We are really very lucky, because the best teachers of the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology took all our classes. All these teachers are very helpful to us. We are allowed to use and borrow books from the library and even from the teachers. Laboratory instruments are also available. We think that we are enjoying more facilities and extra care from the teachers than the students of any other department.

We are very proud to be in this department. Because, we believe that, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology is the most prospective subject of the present world and it will dominate over any other subjects in this new era. Bangladesh is developing country. We have a great demand for genetic engineer and bio-technologists. It is a science, which has a very wide field of its application. Scientists have already identified the genes, responsible for many fatal diseases. We can also use our knowledge in the field of agriculture and industries to increase our food production and build up a prosperous Bangladesh.

We got ourselves admitted in this department with the immense hope about the future. Now we are looking forward to fulfill all our hopes and expectations.
